Fitness areas available at the CRCT
Fitness Center:
The lower fitness center is nearly 10,000 sq. ft. of selectorized, plate loaded and free weight equipment. This area houses a full range of weight machines including a free weight area featuring full racks of dumbbells, bar bells and benches. Overhead TVs keep you tuned in to news and sports. The center’s highly-trained staff is available at the fitness desk to answer questions or assist you in using any of the equipment. Fitness Corridor:
This area, known as the fitness corridor, houses a number of light weights and cardio equipment for users that want to be away from the crowds. Users can also enjoy the exciting views of the pool while they work up a sweat. The equipment in this area is user-friendly.
Fitness Studios:
The CRCT is home to four fitness studios, one dedicated specifically to Spinning®; an indoor cycling program ideal for beginning and seasoned exercisers. The Spinning® studio contains 21 Johnny G Spinner Pro bikes, along with heart rate monitors for each participant.
Our fitness studios feature premier sound and microphone systems, as well as a multitude of fitness equipment, including BOSU balance trainers, boxing bags, fit balls, stretching mats, body bars and dumb bells.
Each fitness studio contains cubby-storage for personal items during class sessions, 8-foot mirrors and Robins-Wood flooring with 80% shock absorption, decreasing the risk of injury. In addition to these features, Studio 1 contains adjustable ballet bars for use during ballet and stretching classes.
The packed schedule of group fitness classes features more than 60 class sessions per week including Pilates, yoga, step aerobics, kickboxing, hip hop and more. Classes are offered seven days a week, beginning as early as 6:30 a.m. and run until 7:30 p.m. Classes do not require any pre-registration and are free with your membership with the exception of Spinning®. Check out the UFit schedule for more information on classes. Ufit instructors vary in age and background, as some are UAB students and some are faculty or staff members. All Ufit instructors are qualified and enthusiastic, making for an optimal exercise experience.
Upper Fitness Center: The upper portion of the fitness center houses all cardiovascular equipment. All Life Fitness, the equipment includes treadmills, bikes, cross-trainers, steppers and more. Several mounted televisions are available with access to audio on each piece of equipment through your headphones.
Running Track: The 1/8-mile, climate-controlled indoor track is perfect for jogging and walking year round. As you circulate the track, you are given views into almost every activity area enclosed within the Campus Recreation Center as well as panoramic views of campus and the Birmingham skyline as the track leaves the building in two places. Joggers/walkers circulate the track clockwise on even numbered days of the month and counter-clockwise on odd numbered days of the month.
