Forfeits, Postponements and Defaults
Team/Individual Awards:
Intramural Champion shirts will be awarded to the winners of each league and/or tournament. Some tournament champions will be recognized with their name being engraved on that sport's permanent plaque on the Intramural Wall of Fame. At the end of the year, the President's Trophy will be awarded to the team that accumulates the highest number of points for participation and outstanding play. The Outstanding Sportsmanship Award will be awarded to the fraternity and sorority that exemplify total sportsmanship throughout the year. Student Employees: Certificates will be awarded to outstanding student employees in the areas of Outstanding Intramural Supervisor and Outstanding Official in each sport. Special Events:
Special event winners will be awarded shirts. Some winners will be eligible to participate in regional or national tournaments in the respective events. Whenever possible, assistance will be given or arranged to offset some of the costs associated with these extramural events.
Back To Menu 1. A UAB ID must be exchanged for all equipment. 2. Lost or damaged equipment will result in an replacement cost for the user. Back To Menu 1. A team not fielding the minimum number of players at game time for a contest shall receive a forfeit loss. If both teams fail to field the minimum number of players for a contest, both will receive a forfeit. See pick-up rule. Player minimums: Football (6), 7v7 soccer (6), 4v4 soccer (3), Basketball (4), Softball (9), 6v6 Volleyball (5), 4v4 Volleyball (3) 2. Game time is forfeit time. The field supervisor has some discretion in determining the forfeit. 3. Any team receiving two forfeits will be eliminated from the league. 4. All games involving a team that gets eliminated due to forfeits shall not count in the league standings. 5. The Office of Campus Recreation reserves the right to postpone activities due to inclement weather or facility conflicts. If there is any doubt as to whether games are being played or have been postponed, call the REC-LINE at 934-8073, (weather option). 6. Team requests for postponements will be considered on an individual basis and must be requested 24 hours in advance. Requests will not be honored in playoffs and may be denied during league play. 7. Teams may request to default one contest during the season, provided the request is done in person by 2:00 PM the day of the contest in the Office of Campus Recreation. The team will still receive a loss but will not receive a forfeit. Back To Menu 1. One team from each fraternity/sorority will be allowed to participate in the Greek leagues. Remaining teams must compete in the independent leagues. 2. Players may not participate on more than one team. 3. Only active members, on the current roster for each semester, are allowed to represent a fraternity in the Greek league. Back To Menu Occasionally, a situation will arise where policies, procedures, or rules need to be evaluated by a panel of students. An Intramural Council is appointed annually and is called upon periodically to evaluate the programs offered through Campus Recreation.
1. All currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff are eligible to participate, except as otherwise provided in these rules. A student becomes ineligible immediately upon withdrawal from UAB. Spouses are eligible during the summer term only. 2. A player shall not be permitted to play with more than one team per sport. Exception 1: A player may play in the men's or women's division and still play in the co-rec division. A player whose name appears on two or more rosters will officially be on the team on which his/her name first appears on a score sheet. Exception 2: Pick-up rule. 3. Registration will end at the scheduled registration deadline for all events. 4. Roster additions must be made by 2:00 PM on game day, prior to the participation of new player(s). Use of a player not on a roster constitutes an ineligible player. Additions may be made over the Rec-Line, by email (intramurals@uab.edu), or in the Office of Campus Recreation (CRCT 220). A player of a team that forfeits out without having played a game may join another team. 5. Any team that allows an ineligible player to participate shall forfeit the game(s) in which the ineligible player participates. 6. Students whose names appear on an official intercollegiate athletic squad list shall be ineligible to compete in that sport or any related sports. Academic non-qualifiers are eligible. 7. Players may be required to show their UAB IDs at all Intramural contests. For indoor intramural sports only, captains who have teams with faculty/staff that are not UAB Recreation Center members must notify the Office of Intramural Sports (CRTC 220) with those player names . Notification may be made by phone, 996-4937 , by email (intramurals@uab.edu), or in the Office of Intramural Sports (CRCT 220) and must be made by 2:00 PM on game day, prior to participation or the individuals will not be allowed to enter the facility. . 8. Playoff eligibility will be determined by the names on the roster; all players must play in at least one game to play in the playoffs. 9. Sunglasses and jewelry will not be permitted in soccer, flag football, basketball, ultimate frisbee, or volleyball. Shirts must be worn in all contests. 10. Upon approval by the opposing team captain, when a team is shorthanded and in jeopardy of forfeiting, they may pick up one or two UAB students, faculty, or staff for that particular game. This must be coordinated through the Intramural Supervisor. The team picking up players may not exceed the minimum needed to start the game at any point during the game. The opposing captain has the right to deny the request if he/she so chooses. Once the game starts with pickup players, it is an official game. 11. Smoking tobacco and alcohol will not be permitted at any activity. Playing or spectating under the influence of alcohol or tobacco is cause for immediate ejection. These are the general guidelines - the Assistant Director of Intramurals reserves the right to assign appropriate penalties; more severe cases may involve referral to the University Non-Academic Judicial Officer. 1. Player plays under an assumed name: 2. Player uses abusive language toward official, intramural supervisor, other intramural staff or opponent: 3. Player uses unnecessary roughness: 4. Player attempts to or does hit, swing at, push, wrestle with anger, etc. an opponent, teammate or spectator: 5. Player attempts to or does hit, push, grab, or threaten an official or supervisor: 6. Team uses ineligible player(s) (suspended; non-university student, faculty or staff; playing under an assumed name): 7. Team fighting (Two or more players from one team): 8. Team with players involved in pushing, hitting or threatening an official or supervisor: 9. All ejections will carry a 1 or 2 game suspension: 10. Ejections will be classified as minor or major: 11. Reinstatement into the Intramural program If a player is suspended for more than 2 games, an entire intramural season or an the entire calendar year, he/she must be reinstated by the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports to be eligible to resume playing. 2. In some sports, all teams that do not forfeit out of the league will make the playoffs. Teams will be seeded based on regular season records. 3. With 3 or more leagues, teams will be selected based on season records, in that the top two finishers from each league will qualify. In the event of a tie for 1st or 2nd place, the bids will go to the top two teams based on the following: If a disagreement should arise between a player and an official concerning the interpretation of the rules that could have or has a direct bearing on the outcome of the contest, a protest may be made by the team captain to the officials. Such protests must be made at the time the dispute arises and before play is resumed (if a play is begun after a potentially protestable situation, there will be no protest). To protest, the game shall be halted and the captain shall request a supervisor. The supervisor will give the captain a protest form, which must be completed and submitted no later than 5 PM the next day. The protest form and a $10 fee must be submitted to the Campus Recreation Office, CRCT 220. The $10 fee will be returned if the protest is upheld and the game will be replayed from the point of protest. A ruling by the Assistant Director of Intramurals that results in no change in the ruling will result in the loss of the protest fee. Misapplication of playing rules and participant eligibility are the only elements of the contest which may be protested. Officials' judgment may not be protested. In case of a disagreement between players in matches without officials, a re-match will be scheduled and an official will be assigned if needed. Protests will be considered as follows: 1. Getting started: Secure a team roster form from the Office of Campus Recreation (CRCT 220), or the online Intramural Entry Form. 2. Return the completed roster form to the office before the registration deadline, or bring it to the captains meeting on the specified date along with the team entry fee ($20 students, $40 teams with any faculty and/or staff members). 3. Teams attending the mandatory captains meeting will receive a win and start the regular season 1-0. A captain may not represent more than two teams. 4. Roster additions can be made in the Office of Campus Recreation. by 2pm on game day, prior to the participation by the new player(s) or additions can be made by emailing them to intramurals@uab.edu. |
